Veterans Day in the United States: World War I

Veterans Day is a very promising day, that shows respect for those who were preparing to give their lives to the country. This day, previously known as Armistice Day, was initially set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I, that was officially taken place on November 11, 1918.



Veterans Day is proposed to thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars. It is manifest by parades and church services in every place and the American flag is hung at half mast. Two minute period of silence may be held at 11am. Some schools are open to celebrate this occasion with special assemblies or other activities.

Veterans Day is officially held on November 11. However, if it comes on a weekday, then it will celebrate on the weekend closest to this date like if this Day falls on a Saturday, they are closed on Friday, November 10 and if this Day falls on a Sunday, they are closed on Monday November 12. Every sector like State and local governments, schools and non-governmental businesses are not necessary to close, but it may depend upon them to remain open or closed.
